Hair Transplant Q&A
More than 50% of men will have experienced some sort of hair loss by the time they’re 50. For many, hair loss can happen far earlier on in life; in their 20s, 30s or even late teens.
Up to 95% of men experiencing a thinning scalp tend to suffer from Androgenic Alopecia – more commonly referred to as Male Pattern Baldness. This hereditary condition occurs when a male hormone causes certain follicles to shrink and produce thinner hair with a shorter life.
Hair loss is always about much more than a receding hairline. It can deeply affect confidence and self esteem, and we believe that’s the most important thing to address.
There are many great treatments to help your hair stay thick and healthy for as long as possible, however, once thinning has occurred and the hair is permanently lost, transplantation may be the only effective way to treat the area.
The idea of a hair transplant may sound great but actually making the transition from thinking about it to following through with the procedure can be quite daunting for most men. While having no hair isn’t appealing it seems the idea of a surgeon playing around with your hair follicles isn’t much more appealing than the latter.
Experts from The Harley Street Hair Clinic have answered a few questions about hair transplants from some of our readers.
A2GR – What’s the success rate of having a transplant?
HSHC The average success rate of transplanted hair grafts at the clinic is 98% .
A2GR – Can you do just a part receded hairline?
HSHC Yes, localised or part receded areas can be restored with accurate planning and precise implantation.
A2GR –How bald do I need be?
HSHC Hair transplantation is possible in a wide range of scenarios, though we recommend you take advice as soon as you notice any hair loss. If the hair has already receded extensively it may not be possible to offer transplantation as there need to be a good amount of healthy donor hair (from the back of the scalp) to use in the transplant itself.
A2GR – Does it hurt?
HSHC Modern hair transplantation methods like FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and FT (Follicular Transfer) are minimally invasive and local anaesthetic is used to manage pain and ensure patients are comfortable.
A2GR – How long before it grows?
HSHC The regrowth phase starts at 3-6 months and you can expect to see the final results after 12 months.
A2GR – Is a transplant just for your head?
HSHC Hair transplantation is widely used for other areas of the body especially beards and eyebrows. We also used transplantation to cover scars, such as reconstruction of sideburns for those who have suffered burns.
