A solid foundation is always important. This is true of everything from your fitness to the house you call a home. It also applies to your wardrobe. If the pieces that go on first aren’t up to par, how can you expect to look and feel your best?

Underwear shouldn’t be an afterthought. It’s easy to neglect as it’s not on constant display, but it’s important to get it right for the sake of your comfort. Because the more comfortable you are, the more confident you’ll feel. That’s one big reason why you might want to consider going seamless.

Seamless underwear is exactly what it sounds like: underwear without seams. It’s often designed with sporty applications in mind, featuring moisture-wicking fabrics and added stretch, and it doesn’t have any stitching that could twist, rub, chafe or generally create discomfort.

It’s one of those things you might not have known you were missing, but once you try it, you’ll never go back.

What Is Seamless Underwear?

Hamilton And Hare

Seamless underwear is underwear free from seams. It’s often made from technical, synthetic fabrics that are quicker drying and less absorbent than cotton, and better at retaining their shape without stretching and sagging over time.

Seams are one of the biggest causes of discomfort when it comes to men’s underwear. They can rub against the skin, they can twist up awkwardly when you’re moving around, and they can dig in under the waistband of your trousers.

With seamless underwear, none of these things happen.

Why Go Seamless?

Hamilton And Hare

In a word: comfort. The combination of a seamless design and stretchy, moisture-wicking Lycra-blend fabric makes for some seriously comfortable underwear. The sort of underwear you can put on and forget all about. If you’re comfortable, you’ll feel good, and if you feel good, you’ll look good. Simple.

We also find that seamless underwear lasts longer than stitched cotton underwear. Cotton has a tendency to stretch out and lose its shape over time. Thanks to the Lycra found in most seamless underwear, it doesn’t suffer from the same problem.

It feels new for longer and keeps everything nice and neatly packed rather than letting it all flop around.

The Best Seamless Underwear Brands

Uniqlo

Uniqlo is one of our favourite high-street haunts. It’s a great place to pick up reasonably priced wardrobe staples that are versatile, well made and reliable. You’ll often hear stylish guys singing the praises of its T-shirts, Oxfords and activewear, but did you know it makes some fantastic underwear too?

The Japanese brand’s AIRism collection is made from a special technical fabric that’s quick drying, breathable and designed to wick moisture away from the skin. This includes the Ultra Seamless boxers, which are designed without seams or an elastic waistband, which reduces the potential for irritation for the best possible fit and highest level of comfort.

At £12.90 a pair, they’re not extortionately priced either, which is good news if you’re looking to stock up.

Lululemon

Canadian brand Lululemon is one of the original athleisure labels. Its trendy, upscale take on yoga kit revolutionised modern casualwear, taking athletic garments from purely functional to fashion items in their own right.

The brand is known for its proprietary technical fabrics, which blend stretch, breathability, moisture management and good looks. It’s an approach that extends to the underwear too.

Lululemon currently offers one pair of men’s seamless boxers, and although they aren’t cheap, they do look the part and promise supreme comfort thanks to their stitch-free construction and silky smooth fabric.

Hamilton And Hare

Luxury underwear and loungewear label Hamilton and Hare offers a number of seamless options, including both briefs and trunks.

Each pair is made from a single piece lyocell fabric that conforms to the contours of your body, allows the skin to breathe, wicks moisture and retains its stretchiness over time.

At £35 a pop, they’re not a budget option, but if you want the best then you’ve got to be prepared to pay.

Undiemeister

Whatever you think of the name, there’s no disputing that Dutch brand Undiemeister makes some phenomenal underwear. The label’s signature boxer shorts aren’t completely seamless, but they are made without the unnecessary stitches that most commonly cause irritation.

Seams that run down the back of boxers across the buttocks can dig in and cause discomfort, and for this reason Undiemeister’s boxer shorts are totally seamless at the back.

Any stitching that is present is done with flatlock seams for maximum comfort.

Myprotein

When you shop at Myprotein, chances are you’re picking up some whey isolate to boost your gym gains, not browsing for a new pair of undies. However, we’d urge you to reconsider and cast aside any preconceptions you may hold, because this nutrition brand’s athletic underwear is every bit as good as its supplements.

The brand offers its seamless boxers in packs of two for £23, which makes them pretty competitively priced.

They feature a seamless waistband that’s designed not to cut into the skin, and seamless mesh panels throughout for ventilation and breathability
